Who We Are

Last October, when my new-found friend, Kristin, called me up and asked me to help her start a blog on femininity, modesty, and purity, I immediately said "Yes!" (After all, who would not want to be a co-contributor with someone as fun as Spunky Jr.?)

But when I sat down to write my first post, it dawned upon me that I did not have a clear perception of what femininity truly was. I consulted a dictionary, only to find a vague description that did not help me. Not long after, I realized that I had made a mistake. The Bible--not the dictionary--should have been where I started in discovering the definition of femininity.

Here are some verses Lindsey and I have compiled to show who we are in Christ, as well as some final verses to point out what the Bible says about femininity (womanhood). If you know of any other verses that would be appropriate to add, please let us know with a comment!

Who We Are....without Christ

We are worthless
"None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one." -Romans 3:11-12

We are devoid of righteousness

"If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand?" -Psalm 130:3

We are worthy of eternal death
"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." -Romans 6:23

Who We Are...in Christ

We are set free
"...who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession who are zealous for good works." -Titus 2:14

We are washed of sin
"Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish." -Ephesians 5:25-27

We belong to Him
"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." -1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Because We Are His...

He takes joy in us
"The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by His love; He will exult over you with loud singing." -Zephaniah 3:17

We are pure from sin, and protected from Satan

"We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him." -1 John 5:18

We are to love Him best
"You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might." -Deuteronomy 6:5

Who We Are...as Ladies

Made in His image
"So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." -Genesis 1:27

We are of equal value in God's sight
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." -Galatians 3:28

Because We Are...His Daughters

We desire inner beauty

"Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised." -Proverbs 31:30

We want to be wise
"She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. " -Proverbs 31:26

We want to be servants
"A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies... She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls." -Proverbs 31:10,13-15

We want to be strong
"Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the ti
me to come." -Proverbs 31:25

We want to be home-loving and pure
"... and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled." -Titus 2:4-5

We want to trust completely in God
"Your beauty...should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and q
uiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to their own husbands, like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear." -1 Peter 3:3-6
